Hi. My program is making changes to the registry that I need to take effect right away. In order to make the changes happen immediately and not at the next log in, I try to refresh the registry by posting a quit message to the program manager. This closes the shell. I then execute explorer.exe which restarts the shell. Now all the settings in the registry are read back in. This works most of the time, but sometimes it makes the computer unstable and it crashes. Has anyone had any success using this method, or know a different method? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mike

The "refreshing" you are referring to is not something the registry does but is something an app does when it reads the settings. What it takes to make that app re-read the registry depends on the app. Bob Scott Ann Arbor, Michigan (email: rscott (at) wwnet (dot) net ) (My automatic return address is intentionally invalid.)
