Does anyone have any success setting a DCOM server to run as a service (system account) and configure the service such that it startups automatically upon system bootup? The error I've been receiving (from even viewer) is as follows: "The XXX service failed to start due to the following error: The service did not respond to the start of control request in a timely fashion." Although the service fails to run automatically, I can still manually start the service afterwards. I wonder if it's because the DCOM server has dependencies on other services. If you have any ideas or suggestions please drop a note and I'll test it out Thanks in advance : ) // Marty

If you have an ATL generated service, you must fix its code dealing with the SCM. Its calls to SetServiceStatus are buggy. See "Professinal NT Services" by Kevin Miller for more details and the actual fixes. -- =============================== Alexander Nickolov Microsoft MVP [VC], MCSD email: agnickolov@geocities.com =============================== Martin wrote in message <387FA40F.9DC600A8@home.com>... >Does anyone have any success setting a DCOM server to run as a service >(system account) and configure the service such that it startups >automatically upon system bootup? > >The error I've been receiving (from even viewer) is as follows: >"The XXX service failed to start due to the following error: >The service did not respond to the start of control request in a timely >fashion." > >Although the service fails to run automatically, I can still manually >start the service afterwards. > >I wonder if it's because the DCOM server has dependencies on other >services.
