|
| Huh? Wait for who?
|
| No, no more ESS anything (not even in Safe Mode). Finally!
I think it was Harper, maybe Martell or Nutcase, I got that from.
So, it's gone? Now, I've thought of something else. Do you have an entry in "Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs" labelled "Uninstall ESS Driver"? Perhaps that should of been done first.

|
| Whew! Almost got lost in the numbering. Or, did I?
I could have done better with the numbering, but I grabbed my "diagnostics" master post, and just attached it.
|
| Anyways, have been doing lots of searching there and
| didn't find much about getting rid of onboard sound from
| ESS. But, I'll keep trying.
Did you, or didn't you, get rid of it?
|

|
| Dr. Watson says the following:
|
| --------------------
| Adobe Type Manager has altered Windows system files.
|
| Module Name: ATMSYS.DRV
| Description: Adobe Type Manager
| Version: R v4.00-32S058G06NN
| Product: Adobe Type Manager
| Manufacturer: Adobe Systems Incorporated
|
Well, I definitely have some Adobe in here, the free Acrobat Reader, but you may have more. Did you buy their stuff? I guess they know what they're doing. I do not get this message in DrWatson.
| --------------------
| <unknown> has altered Windows system files.
|
| Module Name: <unknown>
|
| --------------------
This one bears investigation. What is "unknown"?
| If the Taskbar is behaving strangely, try exiting Internat.
|
| Module Name: INTERNAT.EXE
| Description: Internat
| Version: 4.80.3008.1
| Product: Microsoft(R) Windows NT(R) Operating System
| Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation
| --------------------
I do not get this message, either. Hmm, you have a higher version.
INTERNAT.EXE
Desc: Keyboard Language Indicator Applet
Ver: 4.10.2222
Loc: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
Mod: Friday, April 23, 1999 10:22:00 PM
|
| all of which seems okay to me.
|
|
| > (2) Close all open windows; "START, Run, DxDiag".
| > This is the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Could it have a message?
|
| Didn't notice anything unusual there. And,
| the "Music" tab says "No problems found".
That's a lot of help. (Yet, some do get error messages in there.)
|
|
| > (3) R-Clk My Computer, Properties, Performance tab.
| > Are you "optimal" or "compatibility".
|
| "optimal"
Good one.
|
|
| > (4) R-Clk My Computer, Properties, Device Manager tab.
| > Are there red/yellow ?'s/!'s on any icons? (If you end up in

| > they can easily be restored: "START, Find, F&F, Tshoot.inf";
| > R-Clk it & select "Install".)
|
| There used to be problems but I was finally able to
| get rid of the error and warning flags somehow.
| It's a long story involving many reinstalls, booting into Safe Mode,
| selectively editing the (Enum key in the) registry, etc.
| But, the Device Manager tab looks very clean now.
Excellent. Some day I'd like to hear it.
|
|
| Okay, I need to stop here for now. I'll try steps (5) - (9) when
| I get a chance and respond in a later posting.

| |
| | Well, I'm not sure which of the following:
| |
| | 1) commenting out old ATI-related drivers (
| | ;VIDC.YVU9=IYVU9.DLL
| | ;VPM=ATIVM6XX.DLL
| | ;VIDC.YVU9=ATIYVU9.DLL
| | ) from "system.ini"
| | 2) extracting missing files ("ksuser.dll", "stream.sys") with SFC
| | 3) installing DirectX 8.1
| |
| | was significant. Anyone know? But, the Multimedia icon is
| | no longer missing from the Control Panel.
| | However, sound is still only working "partially".
| | The "Audio" and "MIDI" tabs in Multimedia Properties are
| | all grayed out.
| |
| | I have the Creative SB Live! 5.1 (SB0100) and
| | Creative Diagnostics says:
| | "You do not have Creative SB Live! installed in you computer".
| | And, Creative Surround Mixer says:
| | "Failed to load Plugins".
| |
| | Prior to the Creative SB Live! 5.1 sound card,
| | I used to have onboard sound (ESS Maestro-3i).
| | How do I make sure that the old onboard sound device drivers are
| | removed?
| |
