I know this is a longshot, but hey, you never know, right?

I bought a Compaq LTE 5100 laptop this month. It was shipped from the
selling company on 12/19/95 and arrived at the destination dock on
12/26/95. When it arrived, the box was empty. It had been opened and
re-sealed, and the contents stolen. It left Swedesboro, NJ on 12/19
and arrived in Rochester, NY on 12/26. The shipping company was
Yellow Freight.

If you know anyone who recently received this model PC, and it seems
suspicious, please send me E-Mail. If you think you know anything
about this, please send me E-Mail. If you know of another newsgroup
that might help, please forward. I appreciate any help anyone can
give. I do not check these groups regularly, so please respond using
e-mail.

I have the serial number and all kinds of shipping info for
verification!

Someone else got my wonderful Christmas present. Doesn't that suck?

Sorry to hear of the bad news. A few months back we experienced something very
similar at work. Maybe you can see a few problems with the following:

A laptop was shipped in it's original box (not double packed, so the whole world
could see the contents) via a no-name local shipping company. Needless to say,
the empty box showed up. The receptionist, not knowing any better, signed for
the package. We back tracked and found that the shipping weight was more when it
shipped than when it arrived.

You should have some recourse with the shipping company or the person that sent
it.

IMHO the mail-order company never sent you one--- they sent you an
empty box! Otherwise, yes this is one hell of a longshot, unless you
believe in the stunts demonstrated in the latest 007 movie!!!
