One about mortgage vendors

I am new to mortgage refinance and know little about mortgages, in
general.
I have one specific question wherein I am soliciting suggestions/advice/
truth.

Can an individual go directly to an institution that writes the mortgage
loans as opposed to going to a broker that might be local? I am thinking
that this will get me a better rate/deal than going through a small
broken since he must keep his family fed too.

If this is possible... can anyone recommend such lenders that I could
contact for a refi? They would need to be licensed for residential
property in Oregon.

Pls accept my apologies for the cross-post..

The Follow-up as has been explicitly set to "misc.invest.real-estate".
pls make that happen if you followup to the newsgroup instead of sending
direct e-mail to me... Everyone thanks you...

:)

And I thank you!
