Source for Range of Medical Fees?

I recently contributed quite a bundle to my local dentist.
Although I suspect that his charges are toward the low end
of the range, it occured to me that I really have no idea of
the range of charges other than asking a few friends about
their experiences which still doesn't answer the question.

Is there any source available to the public from which the
most usual range of fees for medical procedures ranging from
an appendectomy to a root canal can be obtained?

Of course such a range would be fairly large, and would vary
with location. Nevertheless, if one were anticipating paying
say $500 for a particular treatment, it would be more than
interesting to know whether the range for that treatment was
$200 to $500, $400 to $600, or $500 to $1000.

Thanks,

Erv
