Finally, I gave up and called Starlite

Your attitude is correct, you shouldn't have to pay for their problem.

Call your credit card company IMMEDIATELY. Be _polite_ and in simple terms
tell them that you are very unhappy with the product. So unhappy that you
returned everything instructions, disks, manuals, etc. If they don't ask
about the 10 day thing, no need to bring it up. Do whatever documenting
you need to do.
Your credit card company has a lot more clout than you do. Starlite will
probably listen to them and they'll send you and update. Remember, it
could be that the registered version does include the splash screen.
Your CCC is gonna credit your statement. They won't actually stop payment
to Starlite until they get both sides of the story. You may not cinvince
them, and they'll charge you. If you exhaust all appeals and you still are
unhappy, pay the $40, BECAUSE a bad credit report is not worth $40!!!!!
Then put sump'n nasty in your sig ;-)
