Following is a copy of an E-mail I sent to Mr. Kidd/Butler: I was beginning to agree with you when I read the first copy of your diatribe - but after finding it repeated FIVE times in this newsgroup you lost all of my sympathy - I have to agree with your customer and others that have commented on your practice of perpetuating your beg screen(s) on registered copies of your software. If you think that it is necessary to do this you should either include the appropriate instructions in your documentation regarding how to eliminate them - many of the users of your product who DO REGISTER IT do so because they are relatively new to computers and have not learned the ins and outs of dealing with "shareware" dealers of your ilk and lack the ability to be able to as you say: <without the code to eliminate the advertisement screen, a <modestly skilled computer user could write a batch file to start <the program and clear the screen upon closing. < Your comments regarding the juvenile behaviour of your customer in no way excuse the far more infantile behaviour you are exhibiting in this matter. I would like to know who the customer's credit card issuer is so that I can check my cards and if I have one from them take the necessary actions to cancel it forthwith - I would not chose to deal with a concern that failed to stand behind its customer in an instance like this! I have had the experience, more than once, of encountering difficulty installing "REAL" software and as a means of resolving it called the toll free 800 "order number" for the product and each time have either been given the necessary assistance to resolve the problem or had my call redirected to the appropriate technical service person who ultimately assisted me. In your situation, since you have built-in this bothersome bug, which by the way any other shareware I have used eliminates upon registration, it would not be an over extension of your evidently lacking good will to have your order takers enabled to provide the minimum amount of information necessary to eliminate this apparently bothersome feature of your product's registered version! It would have eliminated this mess you have dropped on the internet and gone a long way to patching up what appears to be the piss poor image of the customer service you provide your paying customers! We know who this is and we Since there are at least five copies of Mr. Kidd/Butler's missive in this thread already and he didn't "keep it short" as he says, I have deleted the balance of his rantings. I have to say that the practice of not eliminating the bothersome warning screens from registered copies of their software, would weigh heavily against my ever even trying any product they distribute - I'm glad to see that Mr. Kidd/Butler has been kind enough to have listed their product line so that we know which shareware items to avoid! -- It's too bad that 'HATE' has become a new family value!
