Hear! Hear! Just a little personal ($1450.00) experience; I was
riding at night, in a bike lane, with my flashing LED rear light
flashing, my halogen headlight headlighting, my reflectors (under
my saddle, on the back of my shoes, and in my spokes) reflecting.

According to my cyclometer, I was doing about 22 mph (my average
is probably 17-18 mph on flat and windless, I don't think most
motorists realize how fast this is) when a car turned into a business
park (left turn across 2 lanes). Unfortunately, I attempted to
brake and avoid his car. The result was that I tagged the curb
and did a headplant, breaking my clavicle. The car drove on its
merry way never realizing what it had done (my conjecture, maybe
he did know and was mailicious or afraid of a lawsuit). I have
been told this story numerous times by other cyclists.

Point is, there are jerks on bikes, jerks in cars. There are more
cars, therefore the effect of motoring jerks on cyclists is greater
than the effect of cycling jerks on motorists.
