Two points:

One)

I don't know the sums involved in the original scam, but if they're
under $3500 (I think is the current number), the buyer might be able to
take the seller to Small Claims Court.

Two)

Has anybody had any experience with L.A.W.?  (Legal Action Workshop)

Last I heard, it's a kind of "community service" law office.  Rather
than do the work for you and charge you thru the nose, they explain the
situation to you and what you need to do.  If your situation requires a
hot-shot expensive lawyer, they'll tell you that too, and might even be
able to give you referals.  I think they charge a nominal fee for their 
service (meaning, in the range of $25 (my source for this is highly 
dated, however)).

I think it would make a very good first stop in your legal research in
any event.  If you're going to have to pay an arm and a leg for legal
assistance, it won't hurt to spend just a fingernail first, in case
that's all you really need.
