What kind of numbers are you talking about here? I was under the impression that the individual seller determined the payment method. I've got CCs linked to both ebay and google checkout and have had no problems with either. > I ran up against this on one > of my last ebay transactions a bunch of years ago. Paypal refused the > transaction so I ended up paying the old fashioned way -- by money order. I'd just cancel the order. Money orders generally cost more than I'm willing to pay. And if you really want to get a nasty shock, find out how much it costs to wire money to somebody with Western Union. Um, WU still exists, right? > Then it was fuck paypal and fuck ebay for pretty much requiring paypal for > every auction. I generally use the 'buy now' option -- too much trouble to actually bid on things. The only thing I've ever bid on was a UV filter for my Nikon CP800 -- the guy had a lot of them and I could wait until the "auction" was over if I didn't get one. Turns out I got it for LOTS less then the 'buy now' price. I still wonder how a furniture store ended up with a pile of low-demand UV filters... > Who was it who said "No one ever went broke underestimating the > intelligence of the American people?" Ebay and paypal are perfect > successful examples of that phenomenon! Sorry you've had so much trouble. I've found a lot of "ebay stores" who have excellent prices on electronic stuff -- mostly small stuff that costs $2 with them or $15 at Best Buy etc. Kind of like the old days when guys sold software out of their living rooms... There's a guy who sells Chinese violins and recorders REALLY cheap. He's about 10 miles away, and I'd like to go and see samples if possible. I emailed him, but no result. I still regret turning down the REAL WOOD tenor recorder for $15 40 years ago :-( -- Cheers, Bev 66666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666 Vampireware; n, a project capable of sucking the lifeblood out of anyone unfortunate enough to be assigned to it, which never actually sees the light of day, but nonetheless refuses to die. -- Trygve Lode
