does Bose make more than one models of NC headphones? mine is NOT adjustable. 
but it can be plugged in a device if i want to listen to music which you 
don't need.

i don't know the how noisy your work enviornment is & what kind of noise 
you're exposed to. the smaller NC tend not to have much passive protection at 
all. my husband has a pair by Peltor(?) that has no NC but is adjustable. it 
works by equalize volume, i.e., it amplifies low noise (e.g., human voice) & 
deafen loud noise. you can maintain a conversation or hear what you want to 
hear in a very loud enviornment. when it's completely off, it just works 
simply as a passive muffler.

i'm still searching for the perfect headphone with NC & good passive 
filtering, cause my ears are fairly sensitive --- unpleasant noise & loud 
sound just irritate me to no end. :-(
