And then? When we came to Purdue, the principal did not
want to let our son audit graduate mathematics classes at
Purdue; his arguments were probably worse than any you
might have made. Our son had audited the advanced
undergraduate courses at Michigan State the previous year,
with full approval from the school there.

What we were asking cost the school nothing; I believe that
if we did not have as strong a case as we had, he would have
blocked it, but he was not willing to risk his career in a
university community. BTW, he was not only the principal of
the junior high school, but the acting superintendant.

 	Same with school board meetings. Parents who complain
>are heard. Parents who show up to complain with legal representation get
>heard really fast.

School board meetings do not consider curricular problems;
they are much too busy considering traffic and parking, and
other administration. What can you expect for those who
are other things full time, and get together so rarely?
