MOUNTAIN MEDICINE INSTITUTE
(Oakland CA)
presents
a 6 DAY WILDERNESS EMT COURSE
June 20th (evening) through June 26 at the Pt. Bonita Outdoor Conference
Center, Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The course is being taught
by instructors from Wilderness Medical Associates, Bryant Pond, Maine
(One of the finest back-country medical education groups in the world)
along with MMI instructors.
This course is intended as an extra skill module for already certified
medics, nurses, doctors, etc. and does not provide state EMT
certification.
The course is a hands-on course showing how to modify your skills for the
back-country, where transport times are measured in hours & days rather
than minutes, equipment is limited and the complexities of the injuries
and illnesses can be complicated by severe environmental conditions.
In 6 days, the instructors show how to modify your skills for the field,
whether the field is a national park or the high seas. Classes are fast
paced with an emphasis on practical skills. Mornings are devoted to
lectures with afternoon and evening sessions spent outdoors working on
everything from stretcher construction to full-scale rescue simulations.
At least three realistic simulations, complete with 'wounds' and stage
blood will be conducted. All simulations will be videotaped & debriefed
to enhance learning
Medics and Nurses - 42 Hours Continuing Education Credits are available.
The fee for this course is $700 including meals and very rustic
accomodations.
