This is one of the last of the older "silver" indestructable types. A simmilar model was used by myself in college about 20 hours a day in high heat for about three years and not a single failure. It also produces about 1/3 the errors of the cheaper modems. Only USR and Hayes make simmilar quality modems to this one, and Supra(Diamond now) no longer makes this "high-end" type. It is bulletproof, has a seperate cable(std RS232 connector) and a *power switch*. It also has the high-density alphanumeric display. It is NOT one of the newer, picece of junk models that have the cable integrated, dummy status lights, as well as no power switch. It says 28.8 on the case, but it has the newer chipset from a 33.6 and the appropriate EPROM/BIOS upgrades. Evidently Supra did this sort of thing at the very end of the 28.8 run, before they fully switched over to the inferior "express" line. Parents got Cablemodem and no longer need it. Comes with a nice large manual explaining how to tweak *every* register imaginable and custom configure it and quick-reference card. $20(cable sells for this new)
