$50 The FaxSWITCHER II (made by Primax) is an automated switching device
that allows up to four telephone devices to be serviced by a single
line. This makes it ideal for use in home or small office environments
to help avoid the cost of installing extra phone lines for each device.

The FaxSWITCHER II distinguishes between incoming calls and can route
some calls to the appropriate device. A fax machine, a modem, an
automatic answering machine (referred to as a TAD) and a telephone can
all be attached to the FasSWITCHER II. Incoming fax transmissions will
be detected and immediately routed to the FAX port, whereas all other
calls will send a normal ring to the PHONE and TAD ports.

The caller can also enter an access code if calling from a touch-tone
phone to immediately transfer to the FAX, TAD or AUX port.

Features:
Provides automated switching to FAX, TAD, and AUX ports on a single-line
circuit.
Automatically rings through to PHONE or TAD ports if power fails or is
disconnected.
Open line detection prevents accidental interruption of fax transmission
if a device on another port goes off-hook.
Access code allows touch-tone callers to select the desired device port
even from non CNG-supporting devices.
Audible ring signal sent back to caller during detection process
User-programmable features such as default transfer ring count, access
and security codes and hang-up ring count.
Automatic transfer of unanswered call to FAX port after six rings
(default) provides unattended or off-hours capabilities.
The following items are included in what I've got here:
fax switcher, power adapter, short phone cable, user's manual, wall
mounting hardware (a couple of screws and washers, you don't need'em).
Basics:
The faxswither II automatically recognizes most incoming fax calls by
the presence of the caller's CNG (CalliNG) tone on the line. This is an
audible tone approximately 1100Hz that most fax machines send
periodically after their dialing sequence is completed.

The Faxswitcher II answers the incoming call during the first ring and
"listens" to the line for the CNG tone.

If it detects the CNG tone, the faxswitcher II rings the FAX port
without ringing any other ports. Your fax machine will then answer the
call and negotiate and complete the fax transmission as normal. If you
pick up the phone at this time, the line will be dead, as the
faxswitcher II's open line detection will not allow you to interrupt a
call in progress.

If no CNG tone is present, the faxswitcher II will ring the PHONE and
TAD ports so that the device that is set to answer in the fewest number
of rings will take the call.

If you have not picked up the telephone and none of the other devices
have answered after the sixth ring, the faxwitcher II wil automatically
stop ringing the phone, tad and aux ports and begin ring the fax port.
This automatic transfer to the FAX port is useful if you have a
telephone attached but you want callers to be able to send a fax when
you are unable to answer the phone.

If callers know the access code for your fax machine, they may initiate
an immediate transfer by entering that access code on the touch-tone
keypad on their fax machine. This also useful information to include in
your outgoing tad message. This function is active at all times when
the faxswitcher II is operational, and assumes that eh call hasn't
already been transferred to the fax port by means of chg tone detection.
Likewise, callers may connect to the devices attached to the aux or tad
ports, simply by entering the correct access code.

If the power fails, the faxswitcher II automatically routes all calls
directly to the pohone and tad phors so that you can still receive
incoming calls during power outages.

If the device attached to the fax or aux port does not answer after six
rings (i.e. your fax machine is out of paper or turned off) the
faxswitcher II will automatically terminate the call.

Limitations:
While the faxswitcher II is a versatile cost-saving device, it is not a
"magic box" that can intelligently detect every incoming call
corrrectly. The presence of whistles and other unusual tones on the
line may be misinterpreted as CNG or touch-tone signals. Also, being
one of the vast number of consumer telephone products on the market, the
faxswitcher II may not be compatible with all telecommunications devices
and phone systems. It was designed for standard voice, modem, and fax
communication in the United States and other areas that conform to FCC
regulations. The faxswitcher II is not recommended for use with many
South American or European telephone carriers.

Modem users should be aware that the faxswitcher II cannot automatically
detect an incoming modem call as it does for fax calls.

It should also be noted that the audible ring signal sent to the caller
may sound different than your local phone carrier's ring signal.

If there is some concern about installing this product, don't consult
your dealer because you don't have one.

Well that's all the manual except for installation, config, and trouble
shooting and except for the last sentence above is unchanged (apart from
lots of typos). I
don't have the original box just every last thing that came in it.
Reply
to registry@vt.edu The original cost was over $100 and now I'd
like
to see $35. I'll ship it to you USPS for free if you send me a
$35 money order.

In this e-mail I am only actively soliciting people
who are interested in buying the above described device for $35 U.S. If
you have any questions give me a call at 540-961-4208. The
device is like new, and was hardly used. There is only one.

This message was sent,
pursuant to US Code, Title 47, Chapter 5 Subchapter II B227 so please
don't email
me unless you are interested in buying the switcher.

I'd buy it but you didn't tell us what color it is!
