Whoa! Have I acquired some kind of reputation, or what?

My motive in asking for firsthand reports is to promote the use
of the net as a direct source of news, short-circuiting the 
establishment press. That's the same goal as the various futurist
global-village prophets were proclaiming for years before
it all became feasible. 

People seem to be reluctant to tell their stories, though, if the
response to date is any indication. Of course, I'd expect it to be
a while before Cal State students get back on-line. At any
rate, you don't have to be some kind of fantastic prose stylist
to write on the net, and just about any experience of a rare event
like this would be of interest.

For example, in 1971 my father, a retired nuclear engineer
without any special poetic gifts, was able to evoke the
experience of the Sylmar quake as felt in Pasadena very
concisely. He said it was like standing on a passenger train
-- of the type where you can walk from one car to another --
in the vestibule between two cars, and being jerked back and
forth as the train traveled at high speed.
