You are hitting the wrong people (again). Our criticism against turkish
politics has nothing to do with the racism of a totally different
group of people in Germany. As a matter of fact several groups
supporting the call to the peace demonstration in Bonn normally does
political work to protect our turkish and other foreign fellow-citizens
against this racism.

I personally would have no problems to accept german troops in Turkey,
if it stays out of the conflict between the coalition and Iraq and
restricts itself on preparation of defense against an attack of Iraq.
But the way the USA-Turkey cooperation has been established is worse
then the usual practice of "consultations": Asking the allies for their
opinions and deciding alone then. This time there was no consultation
at all, and the turkish president Oezal waited at least two days, until
he give information about his agreement with the US to the public AND
HIS PARLIAMENT.

If the NATO decides to enter the conflict with Iraq as a whole, I
would stop complaining (although I would consider this another
unnecessary escalation and a contradiction to sense and words
of the NATO contract). But it did not.

The membership of Turkey in the NATO did cause trouble every once and
again. Among this are the occupation of northern Cyprus, the situation
of human rights in Turkey (torture), the bombardment of curdish, the
political situation (powerless parliament), It is like this game in
sesam street "Which part of the four does not fit ?".

Although this does not reason to deny NATO defense to Turkey yet, it
should be enough reason to force it not to endanger NATO territory
any longer.

Note that the situation with UK, Germany, Spain is totally different
since the territory there is not endangered. I do not think that
Iraq will retailiate against Turkey to protect itself against
B52's starting in spain. But if it sees a chance to hit the
turkish air bases, it maybe will do so.
