Rahul makes a good stab at distinguishing between "intellectual"
and "real" property.
I have a piece of paper that says I own my house and a certain
amount of land around it. There is nothing about the house or the land
around it that you would perceive as being intrinsically identified
with myself in any way. How is my ownership and the rights of ownership
that I enjoy in my house and land any more tangible than any other form
of property?
Where the Native Americans who couldn't relate to the Western notion
of land ownership somehow mentally dysfunctional? Or did they really
mean to give away Manhattan for 24 bucks?
