>No. The courts define a ``mathematical algorithm'' as a procedure for >solving a mathematical problem. An ``algorithm'' is, in general, >patentable, because ``algorithm'' is synonymous with ``process'' in the >patent world. A ``mathematical algorithm'' is not patentable. Dan, what is your position on patenting "algorithms" (as opposed to "mathematcial algorithms") ? Is patenting them okay? If an algorithm is controlling a computer (by being encoded in its software) are you comfortable with it not necessarily being a "mathematical" algorithm? -- Scott L.
