You don't have to contribute a patent to join the clearinghouse, you
only have to  pay the license fee which is dependent upon the revenues
you generate.  If you are a "garage programmer" this is little or
nothing. But you will be insured against a patent suit, and free to
search and use anything in the clearinghouse library. If you are
interested in saving yourself some development time by reusing
someone's code this will be an additional benefit to you.  If you
insist on manufacturing all your own software from scratch only the
patent suit protection will be valuable to you.  It is up to you, and
the cost is negligable if you aren't making large software sales.
