Am posting for my sister-in-law. She will be traveling to France from
Chicago with her 8-month-old daughter later this month. Any ideas to avoid
jetlag in someone this young? ... or at least ... anyone else with
experience with small babies on trans-Atlantic flights?
Appreciate any help. Post here or direct to bcmar@panix.com

Post here or direct to bcmar@panix.com I once had to bring a baby Asia to America. He slept most of the time, and when he got to America, he didn't seem to care much about "jet lag". Now that I think about it, my kid, who is about a month old, has little concept of day and night (unfortunately) and I can't imagine him getting jet lag in any case. I think people get jet lag because their body's internal clock is telling them it's time to sleep, but it's not socially acceptable for them to do so because it's "daytime". In the case of a baby, these considerations would not apply, since the baby can sleep whenever he wants for as long as he wants, so his internal clock can adjust itself as it's own pace if need be. Of course, I suppose it might be annoying for the parent if the baby insists on sticking to an awkward feeding schedule, thereby forcing the parent to be awake at times that he wouldn't want to be...but that's not the BABY's problem! :-) Brian

I recently posted an article regarding air travel from Chicago to France
w/7month old baby -- I'll post collected responses in a week or so.
I have one more request for info:
Anyone with experience with baby food in France vs. U.S. baby food? I've
found that U.K. baby food has much more added sugar (vs. no added sugar in
U.S.) Also, is bottle water for baby formula available?
Thanks for the help.

We never fed baby food, what we carried was a small baby food grinder. Then the kids always ate exactly what we did, now I will admit that they developed some strange tastes as they got older, but at 6' plus they weren't any the worse of wear from eating this way. Bottle water is everywhere, with and without gaz. Good luck ! ron price rprice@cbmse.nrl.navy.mil CYMRU AM BYTH-It's a Welsh thing you wouldn't understand.
