"I've grown impatient with the kind of debate we used to have about
whether the optimists are right or the pessimists are right. Neither
are right. There is too much bad news to justify complacency. There is
too much good news to justify despair." -- Donella Meadows
Donella Meadows passed away in early 2001.
As the lead author of "Limits To Growth" , she provided the world with
a view as to how caring and concerned individuals could become
involved in a process to bring about necessary changes.
However . . . .
Due to humanity's infection by the madness of greed and the existence
of too many fools and cowards who, fearing the wrath of their
political masters, dared not take her message to heart, the world is
now aware that we have little time, if any, in which to reach accords
leading to a moratorium on the use of fossil fuels.
Absent such a moratorium we shall continue on the road to an abyss of
our own making; and Professor Stephen Hawking's dire concerns that our
actions may well precipitate runaway global heating shall be proved
true.
What can be done about this?
Little, very little, while we spend billions to develop ever more
efficient nuclear and other weapons of mass murder; and little to fund
necessary research that could lead to a planetary awakening.
As I see it, there is absolutely nothing that an individual can do,
other than act on their duty to refuse to support any society that
would be party to murder; and guide, prod and provoke all others to
act in a similar manner.
Ms. Meadows closed the above quote with the following: "There is too
much bad news to justify complacency. There is too much good news to
justify despair."
She was absolutely correct:
"There is too much bad news to justify complacency."
We must face the reality of our times and then do our utmost to bring
about the changes that we have reason to believe will lead us to a
better and more caring world.
And she closed that statement with the following:
"There is too much good news to justify despair."
Again, she was correct.
I offer that "The Tax Refusal" is "Good News".
The reason why is quite simple:
It leads us to either wake up and achieve the needed change / moral
correction; or it will lead us to suffer the use of ALL nuclear and
other weapons of mass murder.
Speaking of which . . .
The Tax Refusal is built on one argument:
That "The Rule Of Law" is based on the duty of all to
refuse to be party to murder.
Indeed:
"Äll have a lawful duty to refuse to support their society if that
society is participating in plans and preparations that are
predicated on a will and capacity to be party to mass murder."
Ergo:
The Tax Refusal can't be defeated; and it shall achieve its stated
goal.
Thank you.
To a safer, saner and more caring world.
To Duty.
