Below is the ratio of passing plays to running plays. For example a number
greater than 1 means that there are more passing plays than running plays.
Likewise, a number less than 1 implies that there are more running plays than
passing plays.
There are two tables: offense and defense. The offense table contains the
plays that the offense calls. For example the Atlanta Falcons call more passing
plays than running plays than any other team. The defense table has the ratio
of pass to run that the given teams opponents call against them. For example,
the detroit lions have the highest number of running plays compared to pass
plays run against them than any other team.
These are calculated through Week 7.
Corrections and suggestions are welcome.
Some observations:
-- OFFENSE --
It seems that there is a correlation between this ratio and the
record of the team. The more running plays that the team calls,
the better the team. Some exceptions of this are Miami (#21),
Houston (#26), and Cincinatti (#7).
-- DEFENSE --
Again there seems to be a correlation between this ratio and
their record. The more running plays called against them, the
worse the teams appear to be. Some exceptions to this are
Denver (#5 -- might not be an exception), Minnesota (#12)
and San Diego (#22).
