No prior knowledge or training in the field of psychology is required to gain a good understanding of the remarkable discoveries and basic ideas.
Sixty basic principles set forth the concept here. Interested persons should contemplate these ideas with an open mind-- realizing that when new ideas conflict with both personal and widely held beliefs, the evaluator should consider the possibility that what is currently believed may be flawed-- rather than quickly reject the new ideas! Think about it, you'll realize there are no other alternatives.
So, to avoid immediate rejection of this new concept, you must consider the possibility that what you currently believe about human emotions and how people remember feelings-- may be flawed or wrong.

SUMMARY OF THE CONCEPT

PANACEA! is a new emotional control process based on a technical, though non-medical, concept. (It's non-medical because there is no need for diagnoses of symptoms, labeling of diseases, or therapy to treat or cure illness.) Its logical scientific basis is fully compatible with known natural phenomena. Its researchers have discovered an alternative cause (other than illness and malfunction) for most involuntary, abnormal human emotions.
However, the concept applies to both normal and abnormal, pleasant or unpleasant, body feelings and emotions which can be manifested (brought up within the body) by thought alone. Normally, its usual application eradicates undesired normal or abnormal emotions. (Few people have wanted to use it to get rid of any pleasant emotions-- even though all such states are childish in their origins. However, every program user should understand and be forewarned that the PANACEA! process definitely CAN permanently eradicate pleasant as well as unpleasant re-created body states-- on a selective basis.)
It also applies to involuntary body states not necessarily called feelings-- organ functioning including blood pressure and respiration changes, complex organized body and limb movements, facial and other mannerisms, and prolonged trembling, foot tapping, finger drumming, etc.
Typical of the feelings and emotions within the above categories are both pleasant and unpleasant ones-- including: anxiety, fear, terror, panic, annoyance, anger, rage, hostility, sadness, sorrow, sobbing, grief, smiling, laughing, joy, guilt, shame, love, hate, resentment, loyalty, frustration, glee, hopelessness, helplessness, depression, satisfaction, enthusiasm, jealousy, pessimism, disgust, worry, excitement, anticipation, dread, and many others.
As noted above, the concept also applies to both static and many dynamic body states of extended duration including: blood pressure and respiration changes, involuntary muscle tension or movement, and numerous other complex conditions which may result in nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and/or churning, and even thought-induced, involuntary sexual arousal.

The unique concept is based on a technical discovery that most human emotions, both normal AND abnormal, result from natural, involuntary human phenomena that RE-CREATE or simulate real, physical body states from specific MEMORIES.

These re-created body states and physical conditions may then cause real feelings which are often noticed-- and some of which are called "emotions." They are commonly believed to be caused by what is currently happening-- that is, by what is being seen, heard, or thought about.
Yet, the basic origins and physical elements of all such involuntary emotions and body states date back to early childhood. They are not recognized as such because these body states often become associated with other re-created and new feelings-- as well as with people, places, things, ideas, and thoughts. Then, they may seem to be entirely new emotions-- masking their true origins.
While tears and laughing clearly have childhood origins, people fail to realize that so do guilt, shame, love, hate, jealousy, and other so-called sophisticated emotions. No one was born with these feelings. Nor does anyone have any FEAR or ANGER sense-of-touch receptors!
All human discomfort-- even including various prejudices and dislikes-- whether caused by external stimuli or internal action, must result from the stimulation of specific PAIN receptors within or on the surface of the body. Any and all emotional discomfort must come from specific, involuntarily re-created, memories of early life physical events-- during which some real illness, injury, or other similar condition stimulated specific pain receptors. There is no other way for people to ever know or feel unpleasant or painful emotional feelings.
These amazing discoveries reveal that most abnormal emotions are created by these same natural phenomena as are normal ones-- not by physical or mental illness or disease-- as is commonly believed.

Current beliefs apply the medical concept that all involuntary abnormality means some malfunction-- an illness-- that requires therapy. The resultant problems of diagnosing malfunctions, selecting appropriate treatment, and arbitrarily distinguishing between normal and abnormal emotions are non-existent with the PANACEA! concept. In fact, the emotional eradication process is so methodological that it has been possible to MECHANIZE it using an interactive computer program.

----------------------------------------------------------------

In other words, all normal human emotions-- as well as most abnormal ones-- are involuntary body states displayed by the routine and natural activity of the brain. It re-creates all such states from memories of specific physical events originating in infancy or early childhood-- with few exceptions!

Because resultant feelings and other re-created physical conditions are real and are felt (or otherwise manifested) by the body rather than perceived only within the brain-- as are all other visual, aural, and conceptual memories-- people are unaware that all such emotions and body states are re-created from specific early childhood memories or combinations thereof.

----------------------------------------------------------------

SIXTY KEY ELEMENTS OF THE HYPOTHESIS

The basic idea is remarkably simple. However, it is understandable that new readers may find it difficult to accept because of its far-reaching implications, complex explanations, and the fact that it conflicts with several current beliefs of long standing.
Most people, including professionals, can't see how everyday emotions could be re-created from specific memories of physical events originating in early childhood. Partly, such skepticism arises from the belief that all people suffer childhood amnesia and cannot remember any events from infancy-- and only a few from the first three years of childhood. But, our research shows that while people cannot remember their early experiences visually, or conceptually, they can and do remember-- and then re-create-- many of the physical feelings they had during specific early events.
Infantile crying or smiling are reflexive responses when manifested by babies. However, when such emotions are displayed by older children or adults, they are classically typical examples of re-created body states whose origins obviously date back to infancy.
As the child matures, and during many subsequent life events, these and many other body states are often re-created. Then, they become associated with one another-- and get placed in new memories-- along with various images, sounds, words, ideas, thoughts, and other new physical feelings. Later, when those memories are brought to mind and recalled at older ages, various combinations of re-created body states-- all with their origins dating back to early childhood years-- are again presented as physical feelings. Yet, other memories, those which originate after kindergarten ages, are always presented as images, sounds, and ideas-- conceptually-- and only within the brain.
Because such body feelings are real, people call them emotions and wrongly think that-- like the images and sounds they see or recall-- they're all caused by what's happening at the time!
And, when they are deemed to be abnormal, out of place, or otherwise inappropriate, society thinks the individual is sick, that there's something wrong, and turns to medical doctors, clinical psychologists, or others for therapy-- always to fix something that they think is wrong. When the physician can find nothing wrong, he may prescribe a tranquilizer or other mind altering drug. Or, he may refer his patient to a psychiatrist. Such specialists commonly use drugs to alter the normal brain functioning-- to treat what they would have you believe is a mental disorder caused by some disease, illness, genetic flaw, or subtle chemical unbalance within your brain. Centuries ago people blamed the moon (lunacy), witchcraft, demonic possession, and more recently, their nerves-- or psychoanalytic baloney for such involuntary feelings and conditions-- none of which were the true cause of so-called abnormal emotions.
So, we kindly urge you to become a "supportive advocate" of our ideas-- instead of immediately rejecting them just because they conflict with your own current beliefs or most of those still embraced by the mental health community. (That's the one comprised of all those psychiatrists and others who have taken more than eighty years to accept the fact that Freudian concepts were and are quite invalid-- and who still continue to promote the flawed "medical model.") You will find that this new concept makes good sense and that the resultant emotional control process works.

WHAT EMOTIONS ARE INVOLVED?

(1) The following concept applies to all involuntary body states, movements, and other physical conditions capable of being brought up, exhibited, and/or felt by the body-- as a result of thought alone. These states result from involuntary actuation of glands, muscles, and organs.
Then, they may produce perceptible feelings, emotions, and/or physical conditions such as sweating, trembling, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dryness of mouth, and pulse, respiration, and blood pressure changes. Also, they may produce a series of organized body or organ movements; e.g., involuntary acts including screaming, crying, sobbing, laughing, frowning, smiling, other facial expressions, tension, clenched fists, arm or leg motion, mannerisms, and other complex physical activities including jumping, jerking, and twitching.
Many acts involving controllable muscles may be consciously modified to logically redirect them or to try hiding their obvious "inappropriateness," childishness, or violent nature.
Included are all normal emotions and most abnormal ones. However, there are some exceptions. Some relatively few physical diseases and real physical conditions can and do cause abnormal human emotions. Those exceptions follow:

EXCEPTIONS

Excepted are those relatively few abnormal emotions caused by injury, infection, physical disease, a few genetic flaws, or physical conditions-- such as brain trauma from wounds or blows, tubercular/syphilitic lesions, brain tumors, sleep deprivation, malnutrition, meningitis, encephalitis, mastoiditis, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, thyroid toxicosis, strokes, (blood clots, hemorrhages), Alzheimer's dementia, poisons, alcohol, drugs, and other chemical intoxication. These and some other physical illnesses and physical conditions can cause abnormal emotional disturbances. They belong within the province of medicine.
But, all normal human emotions and most abnormal ones are NOT caused by the above or other physical or so-called mental illness or disease. They are caused by the natural and involuntary re-creation or simulation of body states from early memory.
The cause of most so-called "emotional abnormalities" differs significantly from causes of physical abnormalities, and is NOT the result of a disease, any mental or physical illness, malfunction, genetic flaw, or obscure brain chemical unbalance.
Logical analysis, laboratory research, and hundreds of human case histories have demonstrated that all thought-induced body-states and their resultant real feelings and emotions are remembered (re-created or simulated) from specific early childhood events.
In other words, all involuntary body states capable of being initiated by sight, sound, smell, taste, or thought alone-- are re-created or simulated states generated from memories of some physical event that originated during infancy or early childhood.

Near the pre-school age years, a major change occurs in the way memories are stored. Thereafter, body states are no longer put into memory so that they can be re-created physically.

(2) Involved are all the basic emotions like fear, anger, joy, and sadness-- as well as the more adult emotions such as shame, jealousy, humiliation, envy, guilt, grief, sympathy, patriotism, pride, or love. They're called "adult" because people think babies or young children can't have such sophisticated feelings. Babies just haven't-- as yet-- combined more than one painful or pleasant body memory to create such emotions. Nor have they yet learned to associate them with ideas or other abstract concepts.
Also involved are involuntary body states capable of being developed by thought alone such as: a racing heart, increased blood pressure, high respiration, stomach or other muscle tension, and conditions of nausea, diarrhea, hyperventilation, sight-induced yawning, laughter, crying, trembling, sweaty palms, and many others-- including thought-induced sexual arousal.

HOW DOES THIS COME ABOUT?

(3) Specific pleasant or unpleasant (painful) body states are perceived by babies and young children-- as well as by people of all ages. Physical stimuli come in contact with (and/or otherwise affect) various sense-of-touch receptors during real experiences.
Please note there are no fear or anger receptors anywhere inside or on the surface of your body. The sense-of- touch only has the following receptors: pain, touch, pressure, and the hot and cold temperature receptors-- plus the muscle proprioceptors that tell us our body position, and the inner ear sensor which helps us keep our balance. All your dislikes come from pain!
When we re-create or simulate various combinations of these sensations from real experiences, only then can we learn to feel afraid, angry, sad, guilty, shamed, helpless, depressed, and moody-- just as we learn: joy, happiness, enthusiasm, loyalty, excitement, anticipation, and love in the same way.
We learn to associate pain and discomfort with ideas. We learn to connect body feelings with other things. We are not born with such emotions. Only after we do that, can we create fear, anger, and other unpleasant emotions from thought alone. Only in this way can we become frightened of things that have never hurt us-- like guns, airplanes, snakes, people, etc.
All our illogical prejudices come from association of images, sounds, (music, words, etc.) and people-- with painful feelings.
Memories of perceived pleasant, painful, and other internal body states and their resultant feelings are stored in every child's brain for future retrieval. They are used as information essential to survival. They help people avoid pain and discomfort, seek good and pleasant feelings, and to determine the meaning of what is felt, seen, heard, and thought about.
(4) Older children and adults remember all feelings that originate after early childhood-- in a conceptual manner. They "see" themselves having a feeling-- within the brain.
They recall images, sounds, ideas, thoughts, and concepts from memory and present them within the brain. People recall how something felt and that it either hurt or felt good during the past event. But, they don't feel the pain of a smashed thumb again either inside their brain or their thumb when remembering such events.
That's the way you remember all events which originate AFTER early childhood. Because of your visual amnesia (inability to remember images) of early childhood, you don't realize you routinely remember body states from your earlier years-- every day of your life.
But, when infants sense pain or pleasureful feelings, they may recall earlier similar events. Then, they may re-create those similar physical feelings (from those earlier memories) as real body states. A parent may not be able to tell whether the baby is crying because something is actually wrong or whether the baby is just re-creating feelings from previous experiences. And, yes, it makes a difference.
Babies do that because they can't yet conceptualize events using images, sounds, and thoughts about how they felt. Initially, images and sounds have no meaning. Feelings are of primary importance. Feeling hungry, wet, dirty, cold, too warm-- or comfortable, that's what gets the infant's attention-- not a maze of blurred lights and meaningless sounds.
In time, infants begin recalling images and sounds; but, only in terms of the more important body state feelings. They see some image or hear a voice and re-create a real feeling-- good or bad.
Everything seen or heard probably gets related to a feeling-- or to some physical body state. Everything becomes "liked" or "disliked." There are no mental feelings-- either in babies or adults-- although some people wrongly think there are. Even mental pain and anguish actually occurs outside the brain. Even headaches occur in veins and arteries outside the brain. The brain itself, like the heart, has no pain or any other sense-of-touch receptors. It feels nothing.
All babies have the remarkable capability to remember feelings by re-creating or simulating previously felt body states that were placed in memory. They may wake up and cry-- even when nothing is wrong. And, if mother picks them up and holds them, they may stop crying and coo. But, they can't and don't feel or see feelings inside their brains. Please note that adults can't do that either. No one can see a feeling or the memory of a feeling. People see IMAGES of body states! Feelings and emotions must be FELT by the person's body.
When people create such real feelings from memory, they don't realize what truly causes them. They just attribute them to what's currently happening. When nothing touches them, they call such feelings: emotions. The idea of emotions was invented to account for feelings that occur from thought alone. The ideas of insanity, lunacy, demonic possession, and now, most mental illnesses-- were invented to account for the many abnormal emotions that occur and which seem "out of place" for what is actually happening to the person's body.
The entire concept of mental illness being the cause of most abnormal emotions is wrong. Science and society have failed to understand human nature and the true cause of emotions. People must now realize that when a person's emotions and/or behavior seems to be "out-of-place," that what is occurring is a natural human response-- even if the person's feelings and behavior are clearly abnormal. While physical abnormality usually DOES mean there is something wrong, an injury, or some disease, illness, or condition that may need medical treatment or correction-- most emotional abnormality is a natural event-- NOT one caused by injury, illness, or malfunction. So-called emotional abnormality results from the natural involuntary re-creation of physical body states from specific memories originating in early childhood.
It is mankind's centuries old failure to understand the cause of both normal and most abnormal emotions that has fostered continued acceptance of the seriously flawed idea that something is wrong with certain people. As noted previously, everything from the moon to brain chemical unbalance has been wrongly thought to be the cause of such phenomena. Today, science and medicine, even the most eminent psychiatrists, find themselves trapped into a paradox where their labeling of alcoholism and drug abuse as diseases has resulted in their own prescription of more chemicals to alter the already altered natural brain function.
Someday, society must cease labeling emotionally abnormal people as being sick-- as having something wrong with them-- and must understand that our present beliefs and therapies are wrong. The cause of all such abnormality dates back to infancy and early childhood-- and to poor parenting. Fortunately, there is a way to prevent such abnormalities from occurring and there is now a way to eradicate them in older children and adults. But, for now, let us continue our explanation of these phenomena.
When infants, babies, children, and even adults remember various body states that were stored during infancy and early childhood, (up to the school-age years), they are re-created in their bodies.
When such body states are remembered during new experiences, they may result in the perception of real feelings because these re-created body states, body movements, and physical conditions stimulate "sense-of-touch" receptors. These real feelings may then become associated (in memory) with various aspects of the new events. They may become connected with new feelings, people, places, things, and thoughts-- involving images, sounds, and ideas.
Also, they may become associated with memories of other remembered feelings, images, sounds (words), thoughts, and ideas. Two or more sets of re-created body states may combine during a new experience to form what seems to be an entirely new feeling.
(5) But, instead of being remembered and presented within the brain-- as are all remembered images, sounds, and ideas (and which are unreal)-- such body feelings are remembered quite differently. Many of those feelings (those which originated during the first several years of life) are involuntarily re-created or simulated by the body. They're real feelings (from memory) but without the original images! When images or concepts trigger them, the person may recall other events from later years-- wrongly thinking that those similar or related events were the first times he or she had those specific feelings.
(6) They may be remembered while people are determining the meaning of "what's going on" or what they're thinking about.
The brain actuates various, but specific, glands and muscles within (or on the surface of) the body. Hormones may be secreted which affect various organs. Other involuntary movement of body parts or functioning of organs may occur.
When re-creating or simulating prior body states, the brain may, or may not generate body states which cause conditions which aren't readily noticed. For example, it may cause blood pressure changes. Or, some body states may immediately stimulate various sense-of-touch receptors. These resultant feelings are real and are sensed (felt) again as various physical states-- instead of being presented within the brain.
They're often called emotions and can be induced BEFORE, DURING, or AFTER various physical experiences-- or they may be brought up separately-- by thought alone.
(7) When an infant recalls a painful or some pleasant event as a result of determining the meaning of what he (or she) feels or possibly sees, he doesn't "see himself" (inside his head) having had some feeling like older children and adults often do. Rather, he (or she) re-creates it in his body-- and feels it again.
(8) This is quite logical for the child's stage of development. He feels a "real simulation" of the same feeling again in his body. That's because infants haven't yet learned the meaning of events that will later on be remembered conventionally-- those that will be "seen" as images, or "heard" as sounds (words) inside their heads. Remember, the brain cannot feel anything!
That difference, the ability to conceptualize a memory without re-creating any body-state feelings-- separates infants and young children from adults. That's what emotional maturation is all about. It all begins around age four or five. When recollection occurs, all events originating after that transition period, are presented within the brain in a conceptual manner.
(9) For example, many weeks or months will pass before a baby will learn to associate specific harmful images and words like: "no, don't, hot," with hurtful feelings. To do that, the baby must place such images or words along with specific unpleasant feelings in its memory. To have meaning, those images or sounds (when recalled, seen, or heard again) must bring up (re-create from memory) those specific unpleasant body-state feelings which the baby can sense and feel as real. Think about that!
(10) Remembering feelings within the brain (as older children and adults do) allows the person only to "see" himself having had a feeling. But, a newborn baby cannot do that. It has not yet learned what those images mean. It hasn't connected many words or images with good and bad feelings caused by real stimuli.
(11) First, such real events must (and do) occur. Things must (and do) contact or touch the baby to give him a feeling. And, he must experience internal discomfort (hunger or illness) as well as "good feelings inside." Such feelings must be (and are) placed in memory before they can ever be re-created or simulated when the baby later sees, hears, smells, tastes, feels, or thinks about some image, sound (word), etc. Only then can the baby re-create feelings from memory when he sees, hears, or thinks about specific images or words. But, babies, even young babies, readily re-create body feelings from their limited memories. This necessary, though remarkable, capability continues in all human beings throughout their lives.
(12) For example, if the child is slapped or otherwise given some painful feeling at the same time it is admonished using the sound "No!", it will connect the two in memory. If this act is repeated sufficiently, then at some future time-- when it hears the sound without the slap, the baby may simulate the feeling again and be affected. This is called Pavlovian conditioning.
(Dr. Pavlov conditioned many dogs by ringing a bell when food was presented. Later, they salivated when they heard that sound alone-- even when no food was presented.)
However, the cause of these phenomena is now known to be the re-creation or simulation of the remembered body-state from a specific memory. Please note that when conditioning occurs without bodily contact, then the child retrieves (re-creates) a feeling that has already been stored in memory. Some spoken word or an image elicits that feeling.
(13) Until that happens (i.e., there is an association made with the memories of feelings), the images, sounds, and words do not mean pain or discomfort because the child feels no change in his body. But, when he re-creates unpleasant feelings from his own memory, those feelings already have been, or will then become, connected with (and will inform him about) whatever he sees or hears. Liking or disliking some image depends on what feeling it brings up from memory-- pleasant or painful.
(14) For example, a baby awakens from a strange sound and it cries. There is nothing wrong with it. It is re-creating a feeling from its memory of a previous unpleasant experience.
If it awakens to its mother's soft voice and sees her smiling face, it smiles, coos, and feels good. It re-creates good feelings from pleasant memories. However, a young baby cannot associate the image of a "skull and crossed bones" on a bottle of poison with the idea that its contents can hurt it. There will be no "mental awareness" of harm or danger (or many other concepts) for a long time.
(15) Instead, as babies develop, they first respond only to their sensed feelings-- to real stimuli. They respond reflexively-- without thought or use of memory.
(16) But, within a short period of time, they also respond to their sensed perceptions by re-creating feelings from the use of their memories. They soon do what they have learned to do-- whenever they have those feelings. They remember the responses that brought (or enhanced) pleasure and those that diminished pain or discomfort. It will be quite some time before they can modify those thoughts or that behavior by using logic and reason. That will require the association of ideas with body feelings.
(17) Although babies and their memories are highly oriented to their "feelings," almost immediately after birth, they also begin to respond to images, sounds, smells, tastes, thoughts, and ideas, as well as their feelings-- which may be new or re-created. It may be difficult for new parents to realize that their baby re-creates many of its feelings from memories-- rather than their being caused by something happening to it at the time.
(18) Body states and feelings are remembered, re-created, or simulated (and then felt again by the body's touch receptors), as a result of the brain's endless search for information that matches or relates to images, sounds, feelings, tastes, smells, thoughts, and ideas being sensed, recalled, or evaluated.
This search is a routine (and continuous) assessment of the meaning of what is currently being perceived. The brain determines the meaning of what is happening in the external or internal physical reality, or what is being thought about or being remembered.
(19) All older children and adults continue to remember and re-create these early feelings every day of their lives. But, people do not recognize these emotions as memories for several reasons. All people suffer from childhood amnesia. They believe they are unable to remember anything from their infancy-- and only a few events from their early childhood. That's partly because people can't recall early events visually.
(20) Also, they are seemingly unaware of the important changes which occur in the way that all their memories are stored and retrieved. These significant changes begin during their pre-school years. They are complete in a few years.
They allow people to store and retrieve huge quantities of information quickly in the form of images, sounds, words, and abstract concepts (language, ideas, and thoughts). And, they can do that without re-creating any feelings which originated during any of their post-transition-period experiences!
(21) But, forever after, everyone will suffer from childhood amnesia-- and we will all "forget" tens of thousands of images, sounds, and most other information from our infancy and early childhood. But, we don't lose it all!
We retain our capability to remember many physical feelings, body movements, and organized activities. We re-create them again-- involuntarily, using our bodies. But, people just don't realize that's what thought-induced emotions, walking, talking, and other activities really are. We remember and re-create crying, laughing, walking, running, and even speech-- all without remembering any of the images or sounds from the early events when we learned them.
(22) Babies store, retrieve, and re-create feelings because of their immediate importance. In the beginning, images and sounds (especially, words) have no meaning. They are just meaningless lights and noises-- until they become associated with the feelings of pleasure and comfort-- or with those of discomfort and pain.
(23) Babies cannot assess the meaning of images or sounds except in terms of their feelings. But, later on, there is a gradual, but important change. Eventually, the situation becomes reversed. The child's eyes and ears increasingly perceive a large number of moving, colored images and varying sounds (words). Also, the child's thoughts involve language, ideas, and other abstractions requiring ready access to huge amounts of memory-- in order to assess their meaning.
(24) The sheer quantity and rapidity of the changing "inputs" demand direct access to memory-- without first retrieving and re-creating feelings-- as was the case during infancy and early childhood. A major transition occurs-- almost without notice.
(25) Henceforth, the presentation (from memory) of images of the person having a feeling during some past experience-- becomes possible. Re-creation of body feelings won't do anymore! When new events occur after the transition period (around age 5) and from then on, people will neither store nor recall any new events in a manner that will re-create or simulate any new feelings in their bodies-- from memory.
Only images, sounds, thoughts, ideas, etc., will be remembered from all new experiences. All new events involving new feelings will be recalled conceptually-- usually with images, sounds, and thoughts-- and always within the brain. The new memories will "show" the person that a feeling was felt during the event-- even if blindness, darkness, or quiet prevailed. But, those physical body state(s) won't be re-created.
(26) In other words and worth repeating, people will remember "that" they had a feeling and they will recall "how" they felt when recalling subsequent events. All new feelings placed in memory after the transition period ends will be recalled as images or mental conceptualizations.
The adult brain learns to assess the meaning of rapidly changing images, words, and ideas without first associating them with body states-- with memories of feelings.
(27) They will be "mentally" visualized-- within the brain. That form of presenting memories of "new" post-transition feelings will replace the former means of re-creating them as real body-states which required their generation by involuntary glandular and muscle action. New experiences will be stored and retrieved differently-- conceptually, and all within the brain.
An orgasm, perhaps first experienced during adolescence, will be recalled-- but only in the brain. Yet, certain thoughts can result in true sexual arousal (e.g., penile erection). That's because it always originates during infancy.
It also explains why some females also can become sexually aroused and reach orgasm-- by thought alone! (Yes, there really are many such women-- and they're surprised to find out that most women don't have that capability and can't ever have it no matter how orgasmic or sexually active they become.)
(28) All this means that most images and sounds stored prior to the "big" change in the way memories are stored-- won't be accessed. The brain will be searching for its new memories and looking for images, sounds, words, ideas, etc., instead of old feelings.
(29) As a result, all of the images and sounds (stored as subordinate to feelings) from those early years are "forgotten"-- unless they are re-stored in a different format than they were during those early years of life. Those that are not, cannot be conventionally retrieved during later life.
(30) Very few get stored again in the "new image-oriented format." Only those which are often recalled, or of recent origin, (stored in memory during the transition) can be recalled later on-- when the person is an older child or an adult. That's why everyone suffers "childhood amnesia" and is generally unable to recall more than a few images, sounds, or thoughts from those first years of life.
(31) However, many memories of old body states/feelings are often re-created during the transition. The brain continues to accommodate their re-creation as valued, real, physical body-states even though any associated images and sounds from our early life experiences are "forgotten", inaccessible, or were initially without meaning.
When those feelings are recalled, the brain somehow knows they are not new feelings which are stored so they can be visualized. So, it re-creates these old feelings physically in the body. It does that to inform us how we felt during some earlier life experience-- being retrieved from memory while the brain assesses the meaning of our reality or our thoughts.
This is how the brain communicates what happened to us as infants to our adult consciousness. We all remember some of the earliest feelings we ever had.
(32) Re-created feelings then become associated with more recent images, sounds, and ideas-- and, therefore, are still retrievable when subsequent memories are recalled. We think of something and we cry or laugh-- or bring up some other old feeling from our memories of infancy and early childhood. They are readily spread to other things during their recollection. A painful feeling (with any healing responses) is recalled as a fear or dislike. It then gets connected with some strange person, a thing, or an idea.
Then, we dislike blue people, spinach, Channel 4, and classical music. We spread our fears to harmless snakes, airplanes, elevators, guns, or death-- none of which has probably ever hurt those who fear them.
Instead of logically having only an intellectual awareness of any danger they might present, many people have real physical body feelings when only seeing or thinking about such things.
We do the same sort of thing with many of our good feelings-- associating them with music, art, favorite cars, colors, foods, and people. It's not just repeated Pavlovian conditioning or habit, either. It is simply a matter of remembering (and re-creating) good or bad feelings from memory during some new experience. (In fact, that's what conditioning is!). Repeated conditioning is only necessary at ages older than about four or five in order to effect such responses; however, only one physical event-- placed into memory-- is all that is necessary at younger ages.
(33) The natural change in the brain's method of storing and retrieving its memories is necessary because the huge quantities of images, words, and ideas will forever after predominate its activities. It will search for and present its conceptual memories before it brings forth old physical ones as re-created body states.
But, many old feelings from early life events continue to be accessed. They are re-created because they cannot be displayed within the brain. During infancy, when many of those feelings originated, no retrievable images were stored in the baby's memory. These body states will have become associated with later events involving people, places, things, ideas, and thoughts. When these memories are retrieved, the old feelings will be brought up, too. We grieve over someone's death-- and then we cry-- remembering some painful event from infancy or early childhood.
Other feelings that were placed in memory during the first few years, also must be re-created (rather than displayed within the brain) because the images and sounds have been "forgotten" during the transition period. Amazingly, a seven year old cannot remember very much of the many many things she knew at age three or four!
(34) Re-created body states may be physical conditions, organ functionings, limb movements, and feelings that may often be called: "emotions" rather than "feelings." They may be given names that differ from the states which caused them because the simulation may be (or feel) quite different from the original. For example, a feeling like "fear of fire" differs from the pain of the burn it simulates.
(35) That's because some original feelings cannot be re-created. Some pains, burns, cuts, and such cannot be re-created. But, many of the body's natural healing and other responses can be; e.g., heart and respiration rate changes, and blood pressure, and body temperature changes can be re-created.
Other involuntary body states that may be re-creations from memory include nausea, vomiting, headaches, diarrhea, sweating, screaming, fainting, and tension.
Various fears are comprised of some of these feelings. Pain and discomfort also can cause anger, sadness, etc.
All emotional dislikes are caused by injury, illness, or certain physical conditions originating in early childhood.
(36) Thought-induced emotional feelings may occur prior to, during, after, or even without external contact with (or other stimulation of) the body's many sense-of-touch receptors.
They may be sensed only for a moment. Or, they may persist until one's reality changes or something else comes to mind. Some are called "moods" and may last for hours, days, or longer; e.g., grief, sorrow, and depression. Being "in love" is another mood.
Note that being "crazy over someone" implies feelings that are clearly "out of place." Insanity is often linked to abnormal emotions. We recognize them as being childish, illogical, or unreasonable. But, we blame mental illness instead of realizing they're re-created!
Colic, teething, burns, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, hunger, thirst, convulsions, coughs, colds, sprains, fever, poisonings, cuts, rashes, infectious diseases (measles, mumps, chicken pox, etc.), blows, bumps, falls, and aches-- all cause real pain and physical discomfort.
(37) All fears, anxieties, anger, sadness, or other painful or unpleasant emotions are caused by the re-creation or simulation of some specific physically painful event-- or the combination of more than one memory. All emotionally-based dislikes result from such painful re-creations. That includes all your thought-induced dislikes!
(38) Such events caused real pain or physical discomfort due to injury, physical disease, illness, or some other such real physical condition. All such events occurred in infancy or early childhood.
(39) All pleasant emotions, such as smiling, laughing, joy, love, happiness, and all other good feelings (which are capable of being induced by thought) also originated during specific events during infancy and early childhood.
They originate from touching, being held, played with, raised in the air, swung around, and other pleasureful acts that feel good. (That includes sexual arousal; e.g., penile/clitoral erections from natural, accidental, or intentional physical stimulation.)
(40) No feeling originating AFTER early childhood can ever be re-created by the body from memory. As examples, consider smashed fingers, pain caused by delivery of a baby, a broken nose, and in most people, an orgasm. Such feelings can only be recalled within the brain-- usually as an image. Even totally blind people conceptualize all events using other sensory, spatial, and even time perceptions-- instead of images.
(41) When people do have body feelings (that can be induced by thought alone), they may think that they originated later on (after early childhood). However, they are mistaken-- and are actually re-creating a feeling from their first years of life. (Yes, that includes thought-induced sexual arousal as well as tears. It also includes the less common, but well documented, "thought-induced orgasm.")
(42) Using thought alone, there is no way to generate any new feeling that a specific person has never felt before. That's because all feelings and body states brought up by thought alone are re-created from specific memories of some previous events! Everything you feel as a result of watching something happen is re-created from one or more old feelings-- from your childhood.
(43) Excluding thinking of several things at once to bring up a new combination of old feelings, there is no way to perform the emotional counterpart to imagining, envisioning, picturing, or fantasizing-- a feeling you have never had before. There isn't even a word for doing it.
(44) Note the above words refer to images, vision, and pictures. The reason you can't "feelagine" some feeling that you've never had before is that all of your thought-induced feelings are re-creations from memory of prior experiences which occurred in your early childhood. If you didn't feel it then, you can't feel it now-- just by thinking. All thought-induced emotions are memories.
(45) Every feeling that people have as a result of watching TV, talking on the phone, arguing with another person, or from reading a book, or a magazine, or working at a computer-- are old feelings re-created from childhood. The TV and the phone don't touch you! Though it may seem like it sometimes, they just aren't connected to your body in any physical way that could cause your emotions.
(46) This means that "no new feelings are possible" from thought alone-- at ages after the transition is complete. In other words, all your basic emotions originated before kindergarten age. People may think they have never had some emotion before; but, they are only experiencing a new combination of old ones-- be it love, grief, panic, depression, or a so-called "nervous breakdown." That's also why some people may never panic, get violent, or belly-laugh.
Yet, others are often up-tight, nervous, worriers, or timid. Emotional people may be considered to be unstable, but, they're predictable.
(47) Few people anywhere realize they remember (and re-create) feelings from early childhood every day of their lives. They are unaware of the major memory transition that naturally occurs during the pre-school years with regard to the storage and retrieval of (memories of) feelings, images, sounds, thoughts, ideas, and other information.
(48) Most people attribute their normal emotions to other natural causes and/or explanations. They blame their abnormal ones on some physical or mental disease, illness, malfunction, injury, chemical unbalance, or a genetic "predisposition."
(49) While there are a limited number of physical diseases, illnesses, and conditions which cause emotional disorders, all normal and most abnormal emotions are re-created from early memories. That's why so many emotions often are childish and seem to be inappropriate for what is going on and "out of place" to observers.
Individuals "get used to" many of their old emotions. Then, they seem normal to them! And, if people deem them to be abnormal, they may say: "I know I shouldn't feel this way; but, I do!" They may believe a disease or mental illness is the cause. They may see a mental health care professional who diagnoses, labels, and treats them as sick. But, they're usually wrong about that.
Even if they feel better, they still can bring up the same emotions unless they're using chemicals-- such as alcohol or prescription or illegal drugs-- which may work, but, only temporarily.
(50) Most insanity, alcoholism, drug abuse, sexual deviation, violence, and other emotionally-based acts or conditions are only the natural result of emotions which are re-created from memory of specific early life experiences. Most of these people do "what they do" to change how they feel. They often do what they have learned to do to get relief from stressful or unpleasant feelings.
(51) The concept (that normal and most abnormal emotions are re-created or simulated from specific memories) exposes various aspects of human nature involving emotions, behavior, learning, violent crime, and the current concepts of mental health and illness-- to an entirely new light. It shows that many current beliefs about the causes of emotions are seriously flawed.
(52) It is now quite understandable why we all have likes and dislikes that are determined more by our feelings and emotions than by logic and reason. It's clear why some of us smile, laugh, and enjoy certain people, places, things, food, and ideas that others clearly don't like.
Our widely differing preferences result mostly from our various re-created feelings-- not our carefully reasoned analytical selections. Even our dislikes for certain tastes are emotionally based. We learn to dislike sour, bitter, or salty tastes-- all from some association with discomfort.
(53) It also makes sense when some people worry, become anxious, frightened, angry, nervous, or seemingly insane-- even when nothing harmful is then contacting their bodies. We can now understand why our intellect, logic, and sound reasoning are often overcome by involuntarily re-created, powerfully strong, uncontrolled feelings.
(54) Even strange, abnormal, and/or violent behavior can be expected during the presence of specific personal feelings that are re-created from an individual's childhood memories-- those which have (over a period of years) become associated with certain images, words, ideas, and other real feelings and behavior. Included are acts of spouse or child abuse, rape, and even murder which involve re-created feelings of anger associated with violence.
(55) The idea that some physical or mental illness is the cause of many abnormal emotions has seemed valid until now. We have just thought something was wrong-- that the person was sick. Many people have seen their doctors who tried to diagnose, label, and treat such conditions as physical diseases or mental illnesses.
But, usually, they found nothing wrong with their patients' brains or bodies which could account for such feelings or behavior. So, the doctors often told these people: "It's all in your mind. We don't know the cause and we can't cure it. But, we have several new medicines which may help your condition and perhaps make you feel better." Valium, and now, PROZAC, are often prescribed. Like alcohol and illegal drugs, they just alter normal function. No matter what the psychiatrist and the pharmaceutical companies would have you believe-- they don't treat or fix anything wrong!

HOW CAN THESE PHENOMENA BE USED TO HELP PEOPLE?

(56) Yet, now this new understanding of these same phenomena offers people everywhere an alternative way to eradicate selected emotions-- without medicines-- forever.
(57) A logical non-medical procedure has been developed, tested, and refined using hundreds of human subjects. It is fully described as the MEMORY CONTROL PROCESS.</E<> It has been mechanized as an interactive computer program named: PANACEA!)
You can run this program in private by yourself. In effect, it can alter the way such feelings are remembered. It can prevent their physical re-creation by simply converting them to new experiences (new conceptual memories of body-state memories) which are thereafter presented conventionally-- entirely within the brain instead of being re-created or simulated by the body.
It doesn't cure or fix anything wrong-- because there's nothing wrong to fix or any illness to treat.
It just changes the way that memories of old feelings are stored and remembered-- and only those old ones that you personally choose to change. You can continue re-creating all your "good" old feelings as long as you like.
(58) Memories of undesired feelings can be traced to their origins using body-states created by thought alone. Then, the event is fully relived-- physically, not just remembered from later experiences. When that is done, a fresh new conceptual memory is generated. Whenever that newly made memory is subsequently retrieved in everyday life, it will be presented all within the brain in a conventional manner-- like all other memories that originate after early childhood.
As such, the body-state feelings are not re-created again by the body. In effect, the old undesired feeling (and/or other involuntary movements or body-states) are permanently and irreversibly eradicated-- even though the original and other relevant experiences can then be remembered within the brain in a conventional (adult) manner-- using the "new" conceptual memories that are created by properly reliving those events.
(59) A logical process called: PANACEA! can identify your specific undesired feelings. No hypnosis or drugs are required to permit you to remember such feelings-- even at ages dating back to early childhood and infancy. You do it naturally-- as you do every day.
That's what you do when you cry, smile, laugh, walk, or talk!
The non-medical procedure must identify the complex path back in time to those younger ages when the original event occurred-- as well as to those other later events-- during which the original body-state was "altered" by its combination with other feelings and its association with people, places, things, acts, thoughts, and ideas.
As a result of these combinations and associations, the pathway to the original event usually is non-intuitive. It is quite difficult to trace without use of the systematic methodology.
The process uses the same phenomena that nature uses when it stores new feelings as "images." It locates the original memory and, in effect, alters the way it is stored. Thereafter, it is remembered in a conventional manner, conceptually, and is presented inside the brain. Never again can those feelings be re-created!
(60) If most abnormal emotions were caused by mental illness, disease, genetic flaws, or chemical unbalance-- as psychiatrists, other mental health people, and the pharmaceutical corporations would have you believe, then there is absolutely no way this computer program can eradicate any of them. But, it can and does-- and without the use of diagnoses or treatments of physical/mental illness.
But, the application has been repeatedly demonstrated to be valid, as is the idea that all normal and most abnormal emotions are caused by the re-creation of memories from early childhood. As stated elsewhere, PANACEA! is years ahead of its time. People are just now becoming aware of its capabilities and the far-reaching implications of the concept and the mechanized process.
And, people who use this process can create the new conceptual memories that are thereafter presented within their brains-- instead of being brought up as undesired emotions. They can do that while sitting in front of their own computers. Both the concept and the mechanized PANACEA! eradication process are currently being validated by hundreds of computer users.
As noted earlier, some of the concepts and ideas may conflict with some of your own current beliefs. However, the ideas are consistent within themselves and are all compatible with recent research and observed natural phenomena. And, they make sense!
They constitute a valid new alternative to the old concepts with regard to the causes of human nature and emotions. They offer a meaningful understanding of behavior, temperament, sexuality, and emotion. Personal and societal benefits await those who use them.
At last, we can update our ineffective, flawed, old concepts now that PANACEA! offers us something valid that really works! Use it in private... or in a professional clinical environment!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

MORE INFORMATION?

Other program files present additional logical arguments for (and detailed explanations of) the preceding concept and its basic principles. They enable the use of the computerized Emotional Memory Control process included within the PANACEA! program.
PANACEA! is a fully copyrighted commercial software program with a suggested retail price of $290.90. It is currently being offered at a special introductory price of $139.90 plus $3 S&H (US funds).
