Best Speakers for $1000-$1500 (AUD)

As the subject suggests I am looking for advice on the "Best"
speakers available in the Australian market for around $1000-$1500.
I know that "best" is a very subjective term when it comes to
speakers but there must be some consensus on the issue. 

If it matters my system currently consists of :

		Marantz SR-60, (Stereo Receiver)
		Marantz CC-52, (5 Disc CD Player)
		Marantz ??-72, (Tape Deck)
		One crappy set of speakers

Also any suggestions for good hi-fi stores in the Sydney area ?
