Fact: Modem manual describes procedure to access modem internal settings via www browser. This does not work and has been confirmed by multiple users. Therefore not likely a few defective units, but crippled on purpose or buggy firmware. Unverified Rumour: BS supplied Alcatel 1000 ABAA unit is OEM to BS, but not identical to retail units. Custom circuitry inside makes modem non-portable. That is, if you leave the BS network, and join another that supports Alcatel 1000, your modem will not work. You get to buy it, or another (not cheap either) again. Shouldn't be a problem with anyone who considers the hardware "free" with the $200 install, BUT may be perceived as being deceptive by others. Question: Does alleged custom circuity provide only non-portability function, or is it also required to be in place for use on BS. That is, will a retail, non crippled Alcatel 1000 (or other competing product) work with BS ADSL? If so, say so, and provide list of qualified units. Thank you so very much, have a nice day.
