Couldn't resist a commercial plug.
The Epoch-1 storage management server mentioned above is
essentially an NFS server with transparently integrated
optical juke boxes and some very smart software to backup,
track and generally manage the large volumes of on-line data
(20 to 1000GB+) which may be involved. The magnetic disks
are used as a cache for data stored on optical media.
Epoch have just announced:
1. The Epoch-2: successor to the Epoch-1 storage management
server. It's based on a SPARC-2 CPU and SunOS.
2. EpochBackup network backup software: it uses a true client
server model and features unattended, "lights out",
"reliable" backup of UNIX systems over the network.
The feature list is very impressive.
Comperex distribute the Epoch products in Australia.
