Researcher seeks datable paper chain letters, especially old examples of the "luck" type. Also seek chain postcards, like those offering to exchange postcards. Also foreign examples, clippings, recollections. I will buy originals (best in postmarked envelope) or send expenses plus a buck or two for photocopies. NOT interested in recent money letters, but recent luck chains seem scarce now, and I would like to see what may still be circulating. For a history of chain letters see: http://www.silcom.com/~barnowl/clevo/start.htm Thanks, Dan VanArsdale

My perception is that there are now a huge number of chain letters going round as e-mail, and I would not be surprised if these had entirely superseded the older paper-based ones. I am not about to post examples here, but there are many identified or listed on various internet sites which you should be able to find. Start with the "Urban Legends" site at kumite.com, and have a look at the Hoaxes sections at www.sarc.com (symantec) and www.datafellows.com . Interestingly, there is an increasing tendency to disguise these within graphic images and slide shows, perhaps with the intent of defeating text-based filtering systems. There is also a general trend towards the more negative aspect - i.e. not "good luck if you send this" (although there are plenty of those still around), but "bad luck if you don't send this" - which perhaps reflects an increasing reluctance to forward the "positive" kind. Good luck with your search :-) > >Thanks, Dan VanArsdale Please remove "nospam" from mailto address when replying
