Like many other devices, it should not be tossed in willy-nilly, but used for a purpose. One example you might see in a short story would be a peek at the rapidly degenerating mind of an unstable character as his attitude toward an individual or thing changes to increasingly bizarre and unrealistic interpretations. This may be more tricky if you try to "show" each nuance of change by his actions and speech alone. -- Dorothy Westphal, Sunnyvale, Calif. % Just when things are going your way...% westphal@iscnvx.lmsc.lockheed.com % they get even better! %
