I'd just like to interject here that even if you accept _A Scanner Darkly_
as largely autobiographical, the most you could infer is that PKD was
obsessed with dog shit, not horse shit.  And it wasn't his fault.  It
was something that woman said.  Things stick in your mind, you know.  It
can happen to anyone.  You'd think at least someone living in
Baltimore "If there is a scoop law, they sure don't enforce it" Maryland
would understand.
