Interesting question! What IS the magic? And why is it different to any
other fantasy tale which tells of the eternal struggle between good and
evil?? I like these books but they don't set me on fire (as it were) -
equally, I enjoyed the Narnia books and reread them on a regular basis -
Wind in the Willows - the Simon Jacques books and so on and so on.

So what is the magic behind JKRowling's books?
