PUT EM ON _THE SPOT_ : V O T E !
With the clock ticking away until Tuesdays election, we remind you to
vote with a special window and in-store display: Vintage presidential
election spots from Eisenhower vs. Stevenson to Reagan vs. Mondale. View
these on videotape now through Wednesday, November 6.

Edwin Diamond & Stephen Bates definitive book on political advertising
_The Spot: Rise of Political Advertising on Television_ and Diamond &
Silvermans _White House to Your House: Media and Politics in Virtual
America_ are ON SALE through November at $10. each (regularly $17.95 and
$20 respectively). Both are published by The MIT Press.

Political advertising and its negative effects on the electoral process
are the subject of MIT political scientist Stephen Ansolabeheres book
_Going Negative_ (Free Press, $24. cloth) written with Shanto Iyengar of
UCLA. U.S. voter turnout is now the lowest of any of the industrialized
democracies, driven downward say the authors, by negative TV ads.
