Not "Reportadly", they did.  They went both ways.

Their culture like the Spartans made women pretty inaccesable and unvailble
and for the longest time the only prostitutes where the temple gals and the
women
priests and their acolytes who would support their goddesses by prostitution,
but
all other forms of sex and prostitution was usually forbidden.
This leads to a prison/arabic/greco type of society.

And what they considered "boys" is not what us perverted puritanically,
judeo/christian
perverted religous sense of the word.
Most culures throughout history have frowned upon sex with pre-pubescent humans
of
either sex, but at first signs of maturity they're considered sexual beings,
which is what
they should be.
And also remember, that in ancient up till pretty close to recent times, menses
and
onset of maturation didn't start till much later, averaging age 13-18 usually
with 15 being
the median age.

It's very confusing for the human american animal, male and female to see
millions of 9 year
olds with beards, breasts and pubic hair and acting like little children.

We're not programed to be excited by children, but when children have breasts it
sends a
very confusing anthropological message to the populace.

Anyway, the catholic church as always been known as a province of pedophiles,
from time
immorial with men with those predilictions seeking vows for the sole purpose of
having
safe and compliant underage sex and total control over their charges that no
real women
would ever give them.

Most of the popes until recent time where drunken murdering pedophiles.  Many
ministers are too
and have been.  It's a business that naturally attracts these people and
hucksters, with a small
minorith of really dumb and brain-washed individuals who really beleive in all
that stuff.
