Subj: VLSI Workstations
We're in the process of evaluating bids for color workstations
intended primarily to run the Berkeley/Stanford/MIT et al VLSI
tools for layout, extraction, simulation, etc.. We've received
proposals we think are responsive from:
1. Silicon Graphics -- IRIS 2400 68010-based system w/ geometry
engine
2. Integrated Solutions, Inc. -- 68020-based system w/ 6888i
floating-point processor
3. Computervision 68010-based system w/ floating-point processor
4. Apollo DN560 68020-based system w/ 6888i floating-point processor
5. DEC VAX520 MicroVAX II-based system w/ floating-point processor
All workstations have 2MB RAM, at least 30MB local disk, and
(except for IRIS) a file server with at least 70MB capacity.
1. Do you have any experience to share on using any of these
workstations for VLSI design?
2. What system(s) have you chosen, or in what direction are you
heading on workstations for VLSI.
Any input you can provide will be appreciated. If you'd prefer,
please give me a call at (408)646-3451
Thanks,
