Publicity leaflet from Telecom contains the following useful information:

|A dial-in time service is now being provided by Telecom. The details of the
|service are as follows:
|PSTN numbers to be allocated as service becomes available in each State.
| [Melbourne clock access number is:- (03) 600-1641]
|The output provides a 1200 baud CCITT V22, asynchronous serial output of local
|time and date for each state and territory in ASCII encoded characters.
|The time and date are repeated every second for the duration of the maximum
|connection period. (currently 20s)
|Code sequence is YYYY-MM-DD<space>HH:MM:SS *<CR><LF>
|The transition between the stop bit of <CR> and the start bit of <LF> marks the
|seconds epoch for each code frame.
|Accuracy of the seconds epoch at the exchange is one millisecond.
|The * character is present during all non-daylight saving periods and is
|replaced by a # character during daylight saving periods in each state and
|territory.
|The most significant digit is always sent first.
|The character frame is 1 start bit, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity.

I thought that this info may be of use to others.

Regards,
         Steve
