How to prolong Firefox's dns search time?

The ISP I am using is crappy. It's really slow, even the DNS search is
slow.

The Firefox I'm using is version 3.07.

There are times I type in the url of a site on Firefox's address box,
hit enter, and within a split second Firefox returns with the error
message that says something like "The site is not found" or something
like that.

I use Opera as well as Google Chrome too, and the same sites that
Firefox tells me "Not Found", Opera and Chrome get me there.

I wish I can get Firefox to search longer, before it tells me that the
site is unavailable.

Is there a way to prolong Firefox's "search" time?

Please help, thank you !!
