-Workshop: Tools for Change - Music & Revolution
Calling all poets, singers/songwriters, writers, musicians, dancers,
actors, artists, composers, radical riff raff, creative anarchists and
general malcontents who love music and want to know more. How can we use
music as a tool for radical social change, and have a good time doing it,
too? What's the connection? Is this a new thing? Slaves did it before.
Who plays those dissident chords of freedom, sings or raps the songs of
protest today? Can you dance to this stuff? Will the neighbors complain?
Can anybody do it? Will your Mom like it? Is it cool, too? Come to a
workshop and find out. Learn about the history, the practitioners, the way
music can help shape our world into a better place and how you can plug
in, tune up and belt it out.

Bring your ideas, your creativity, your ears and voices, your musical
instruments (un-plugged), sheet music, songs, poems, note-paper and pens,
tape recorders, etc. A hands-on workshop.

Norman Nawrocki is a Montral-based author/actor/anarchist, and the
vocalist/violinist for the 'rebel news orchestra' RHYTHM ACTIVISM (RA),
the 'weddings & divorces' band THE FLAMING PEROGIES, and the violin duo
VOLTAGE VIOLINZ. As an activist-performer, Norman has given thousands of
shows and appeared in demonstrations, on stages, radio & TV, across North
America & Europe since 1986.

To register call QPIRG at 848-7585

-Video: Tools for Change - Beyond McWorld
>From teach-ins to sit-ins, students and youth are working with others to
target and expose the corporate players behind government cutbacks and the
private take-over of our public institutions and social programs. Based
on the Global Teach-In held in Toronto in November 1997, the video Beyond
McWorld portrays the growing momentum of the global resistance of citizens
in confronting global capitalism.

Writer and activist Jaggi Singh of the APEC Hearings will talk about his
experiences organizing to resist globalization. Jaggi was actively
involved in organizing the resistance to APEC in Vancouver last fall, and
was arrested the day before the leader's summit for his efforts. As well,
he was involved in the Operation Salami campaign against the MAI in
Montreal last May.

1455 de Maisonneuve W. Room 507 @ 8:30pm. Suggested donation 2 to 5$
