BI is Briedbart Index, the standard method of measuring excessively
crossposted ('spam') or excessively multiposted ('velveeta') Usenet
posts. It's the sum of the square roots of the number of groups that
similar articles are posted to. A BI of 20 is considered open for
cancelling by a 3rd party.

For example, given these messages:

 <361ec7b6.3015470@news.sprint.ca>  (6 groups)
 <361f7d9d.3291337@news.sprint.ca>  (6 groups)
 <3620b9bf.10135442@news.sprint.ca> (6 groups)
 <3620bca1.10873949@news.sprint.ca> (5 groups) 
 <3620d893.2238634@news.sprint.ca>  (1 group)
 <3620d80d.2104544@news.sprint.ca>  (5 groups)
 <361ec6f3.2820110@news.sprint.ca>  (4 groups)

the BI would be 3*sqrt(6)+2*sqrt(5)+sqrt(2)+sqrt(1), or 14.82.
