Linux Quebec hosts the Canadian National Linux Install Fest in Montreal

On Saturday September 26, between 1 pm and 5 pm, a group of
volunteers from Linux Quebec will be at the cole Polytechnique,
on the Universit de Montral campus (See below for directions)
waiting and willing to install Linux on your computer system at
no cost. This is part of a simultaneous Canada wide effort to
introduce people to the fastest growing Open Source operating
system in the world on this date.

If you would like to install Linux on your system, we encourage
you to let us know what type of system you have before the
Install Fest to better enable us to prepare for your
installation. You can either send email with your system
configuration to install@linux-quebec.org or check out the web
page at http://www.linux-quebec.org/linux.html and fill out the
form. Sorry, it is only in french at the moment. Please include
the following in your email: Processor (Intel
386/486/Pentium/II, AMD, Cyrix, Sparc/ULTRASparc, DEC Alpha,
MIPS) Make/Model of the manufacturer, amount of memory, system
bus (ISA, PCI, VESA, etc), Hard drive sizes and interface (SCSI,
IDE/EIDE, MFM/RLL), Video Card, Monitor, Mouse, printer,
networkcard, and soundcard.

Linux can co-exist with most other operating systems on the same
or multiple hard drives. We cannot guarantee that the
installation will not cause problems with your other operating
system(s)...but it usually doesn't. There are many thousands of
people who have Linux co-existing on a system with Windows 95,
98, NT, DOS, OS/2, Solaris, Novell, QNX, MacOS, BeOS...

MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR IMPORTANT DATA. WE WILL
*NOT* BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY LOST INFORMATION CAUSED BY THE
INSTALLATION OF LINUX ON YOUR SYSTEM.

Directions:

The Installfest will take place in the Rolland gallery, on the
sixth floor of the cole Polytechnique, on the Universit de
Montral campus.

BY CAR:

If you are coming by car, the easiest is to get onto Queen Mary,
and drive east onto the campus, and keep on driving upwards,
following the signs to the cole Polytechnique. Park in the
parking lot in front of the building.

BY SUBWAY:

Get off at the METRO Universit de Montral, and follow the
signs to the cole Polytechnique...just keep on walking upwards.

Once you are there, enter by the Student Entrance, which faces
the parking lot. For reference, please use the following link to
get a map to the cole Polytechnique, and you will find on it
the entrance labeled 3, and the parking area labeled 9. Once you
are in the building, there will be signs directing you to the
Installfest in the Rolland Gallery on the 6th floor. It is
accessible via stairs, or if you are carrying a computer, there
is an elevator, and a cart will be made available to move your
equipment.

Please refer to the following map *before* you leave. We don't
want to loose anyone on their way to the Installfest! <grin>
