"Ottawa (Special) - Supporters of jailed Indian activist Leonard Peltier
may turn to the United Nations after the Supreme Court of Canada refused
yesterday to reopen his 13-year-old extradition case. As is customary,
the country's highest court gave no reasons for refusing to hear the
appeal of a 1976 ruling ordering him returned to the United States for
the killing of two FBI agents on a South Dakota reserve. ... He was
arrested in Hinton, Alta., in February, 1976, and was later extradited
after appeals to Canadian courts and the federal justice minister
failed."
