It was European Jews who moved in and took over the land. The semitic Jews who are native to the area lived in *relative* peace with their Arab neighbors. The European "ashkenazi" Jews are the ones who founded Zionism. Religious Jews were opposed, in general, to this political approach. They wanted a return to "Israel" only through "god's" direction. The best thing would be if the two sides lived in *one* nation with clearly demarcated rights for all: namely religious freedom, freedom of speech, and other guarantees for a pluralistic society. Did you know, in Israel, only an Orthodox rabbi can officially marry a couple? RCL
