     Yeah, on that basis it makes a little more sense: the Sephardim
lived in Arab/Muslim countries in relative peace, though they were
definitely second class citizens (as are the Christians in most of
those countries today).  It wasn't until the formation of Israel (not
specifically Jewish terrorism directed at Britain) that the real
crackdown on the Sephardim, leading to confiscation, arrest, and
expulsion, began.  Apparently once a Jewish state existed and
started winning wars against its Arab neighbors, Jews in Arab/Muslim
countries were regarded as automatic spies and traitors.

     Over a month--started Nov. 20 by somebody who hasn't posted to
the thread since.  (It might have been spammed to multiple news
groups.)  So probably it is time to agree that everything that needs
to be said on the subject has been said.
