Since the Church promotes marriage, except for the priestly classes (those who
take vows, anyways), the condemnation of sex outside of marriage combined with
modern medicine and much-longer reproductive lifespans to equal nothing more
than a slight time-delay before whole-hog reprocdutive frenzies. Look at it
this way, when the Church declared even onanism to be a sin, the world was
reeling from a population collapse in europe amounting to something like 4 out
of 5 people, from the Plagues, and a woman on average might live through four
childsbirths, with perhaps two of the children surviving to become parents,
with about a half-child surviving to become grandparents. The situation has
changed. Now even grandmothers may conceive and give birth and possible live
to see the great great granchildren give birth into a grossly overcrowded
world in which developing nations are exploding into the technical mode
wherein once only the US had 10 percent of the population and consumed 40% of
the resources. soon all of those overcrowded little countries will have the
same resource-usage rates, but nobody to exploit. what then?
Zero Population Growth is the _minimum_ sensible response.
