Hi,

This is just a reminder that the sixth NEARnet mini-seminar, "Upcoming
Protocols and Applications" will be held on Friday, 6 November 1992 in
BBN's Newman Auditorium. Due to the amount of material being presented
we expect the seminar to run until 4:30 p.m., so please plan
accordingly. Included below are portions of the original
mini-seminar series announcement, an agenda, and a registration form
for you to use in registering via email.

Please note the following registration guidelines:

1. Registration for each seminar needs to close one week (on 10/30/92
for the next seminar) before the seminar to allow NEARnet staff time
to prepare materials, order refreshments and finalize details.

2. If you would like to register for next weeks seminar you may send
in your registration via electronic mail and drop your vouchers/checks
in the postal mail by the end of this week. Please send email
registration to Diane Yerardi at dyerardi@nic.near.net. We are not
prepared to handle registrations and receive vouchers/checks the day
of a seminar.

On behalf of the staff I thank you for your cooperation and look
forward to seeing you on November 6.

Sincerely,
Jim Naro
NEARnet User Services.

Based on member feedback received at the Technical and User Seminar
held in December, 1991, NEARnet is offering six mini-seminars in 1992.
They will be held afternoons from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at BBN's
Newman Auditorium in Cambridge, MA. The mini-seminars will cover
specific topics of interest to technical liaisons, information
  liaisons, and administrators.

Upcoming Protocols and Applications - Friday, November 6
In this session we focus on upcoming protocols and
applications in the Internet. We will cover OSI and
the ISODE package, as well as X.400 and X.500. We
will also take a look at other upcoming applications
such as	Privacy Enhanced Mail (PEM), WAIS, Archie,
etc. This session will give an overview of how these
new protocols and applications are implemented and
supported in the Internet so that technical liaisons
can assess the impact of these on their own networks.

  ***************************************************************************
