There are a couple things going on.

First, there's a special deal at The World, where BCS members get
a significant discount; I don't recall the details off-hand.

Second, I've set up a UUCP hub at the BCS Resource Center, registered
as bcs.org. This system is currently feeding email to the office QuickMail
server. The UUCP module we have for QuickMail is limited to ten users;
we've got a couple people looking into getting a larger module. Currently,
we've registered several members of the office staff with the UUCP module.
Jerry Feldman is coordinating the QuickMail end of this.

I'm currently working with Martin Wartak and Tom McGee to get a gateway
between UUCP and the Fidonet protocols; once we've got it debugged,
we'll have FQDNs for the BCS bulletin boards; the BCS/Mac board, for
example, will be accessible as "user@bcsmac.bcs.org", instead of the
current scheme where it's "user@f485.n101.z1.fidonet.org".

Once we've got this up and running, we're going to declare Phase I of
the Internet Task Force agenda complete. At that point, we'll begin
discussing getting a direct Internet connection. We've reserved a
Class C IP address already, and as of a year ago, we had some contacts
for getting access to a nearby router, and for a donation of a Sparc system.
Those offers have probably expired by now; as far as I know, nobody's
followed up on them in a year. In any case, we'll be discussng these things
next time we meet.
