Subject: Saturday's Conferences

Apple Expo East, Oct. 2, 3 and 4, 1992:

              -= Conference Schedule =-

This file lists the conferences for Saturday, October 3rd. Except as
noted all events take place at the Park Plaza Castle Building.

---------------------
10:00 - 11:00 AM, Keynote Address (Plaza Room, Park Plaza Hotel)

Robert Grenoble, President, Boston Computer Society.

"Computer Users' Groups as a Resource for Educators." Robert is the
new President of the BCS, the world's largest computer users' group,
and has been an active leader of users' associations for many years.
He discusses how users' groups are becoming an increasingly important
resource for both teachers and schools, and how educators can best
make use of the BCS and other groups.

---------------------
10:00 - 11:00 AM, "Using Apple Computers Together: Or, How I Learned
to Stop Worrying and Love the Mac."

Paul Statt, Senior Editor, InCider/A+ Magazine.

Apple II's, Apple IIGS, and Macintoshes are facts of life for many of
us - particularly classroom teachers who need to use all the
computers they have, not just the latest and greatest. Do you need
to say good-bye to the Apple II when you get a new Mac? Absolutely
not! We'll explore the ways that Apple's and Macs can share the same
peripherals, such as keyboards, mice, printers, and CD-ROM drives.
We'll discuss file sharing and which applications make it especially
easy to pass work between Macintoshes and Apple II's. And we'll
demonstrate how smoothly the new Macintosh LCII makes the move from
II to Mac and back.

---------------------
10:00 - 11:00 AM, "HyperStudio 3.0, Experience the Power."

Rob Staats, Dave Cochran, Walt Dimitruk, HyperStudio Network.

See the key features of HyperStudio 3.0 demonstrated by a team from
the HyperStudio Network, the International Information Source for
HyperStudio. See how HyperStudio can employ the laser video disk,
CD-ROM and scanning devices to create powerful presentations and
sensational stacks. You will also see sample stacks made by people
from all over the country.

----------------------
11:15 - 12:15 PM, "ClarisWorks."

Ronnie Peters, Educational Account Manager, Claris Corp.

This seminar will show how educators can use a productivity tool such
as ClarisWorks in the classroom; as an integrated curriculum tool and
a teacher productivity tool. Demonstrations will show ClarisWorks
file transfer capabilities using documents created in AppleWorks.

---------------------
11:15 - 12:15 PM, "Top-Rated Educational Software You Just Gotta
Have!"

Art Willer, M.Ed., Bytes of Learning, Inc.

UltraKey is America's first choice in keyboarding tutors - the only
program that actually shows you how to type. InSight is the brightest
new light in easy-to-use career exploration software. Consumer
editions and special school editions with site and network licenses
will be presented. Suitable for children and adults.

---------------------
12:30 - 1:30 PM, "The New World of Imaging."

Charles Altschul, Director of Education, Center for Creative
Imaging.

Digital Tools for communications have been available for decades but
technological breakthroughs have made these tools available to a much
wider audience. We are now in an era where media which were once
independent are easily combined and manipulated to allow ideas to be
communicated in new ways. The Kodak Center for Creative Imaging was
founded to provide an environment where these technologies can
empower creativity and extend imagination, opening the way from idea
to expression, from vision to art. The Center seeks original
thinkers - from photographers to graphic designers, from architects
to computer musicians - individuals looking to the far horizons of
communications in our time.

---------------------
12:30 - 1:30 PM, Desktop Publishing - Design Principles for the
Non-Designer."

Robin Williams, Author of the Little Mac Book, PageMaker 4.0 An
Easy Desk Reference, and The Mac is Not a Typewriter.

Desktop Publishing on the Macintosh, tangible concepts for page
design, and designing with fonts. A discussion of some of the rules
governing traditional type and page layout, and the logic behind
them. These guidelines will help everyone to create beautiful
sophisticated pages.

---------------------
1:45 - 2:25 PM, "Mac-PC Disk and File Compatibility: Common
Misconceptions."

Robert Hoxie, Data Viz Sales & Marketing, DataViz, Inc. Inc.

What do you need for Mac-PC disk and file compatibility? How can you
use PC files on your Mac or Mac files on your PC with all their
original formatting intact? See how MacLinkPlus products from
DataViz are, quite simply, the solution to Mac-PC disk & file
compatibility.

----------------------
1:45 - 2:45 PM, "Tips and Techniques for Using the Big Text Machine
Creatively."

     Phil Shapiro, Founder, Balloons Software.

This seminar will introduce the Big Text Machine software showing
many of the program's features and giving suggestions on how the
software can best be used in the classroom.

---------------------

imagine, dream and write. Graphic writing programs, easily used by
children of all ages and abilities. Combine graphics with text to
produce delightful and often inspiring results! Those new to our
software and seasoned "Pelicans" will learn innovative new ways to
use our programs. New programs will be introduced including Pelican
Press! for the Macintosh family (it prints posters up to 27 feet
tall!).
---------------------
3:00 - 4:00 PM, "Serious Macintosh Software Development for BASIC
Programmers."

     Ross Lambert, Ariel Publishing, Inc.

Inside Basic Magazine editor Ross Lambert will demonstrate
FutureBASIC, a brand new developmental environment for the
Macintosh, and also an incredible object oriented interface
tool called PG:Pro. These two programs work in tandem to produce the
first object oriented BASIC for the Mac. Ross will also detail the
advantages and disadvantages of Mac software development using
FutureBASIC relative to MacApp/C++, HyperCard, and ProGraph.

---------------------
4:15 - 5:15 PM, "Games - Games - Games: Having Fun with the
Greatest Games for the Apple IIGS."

Dean Cyboron, Big Red Computer Club

Big Red is introducing the new award winning game "Out of This
World." Using polygonal graphics, it has an unbelievable look and
feel. It's unlike anything ever offered for the GS before. Other
award winning and new games will be presented to show the power of
the graphics and sound of the GS. Come and have some fun!

--------------------
4:15 - 5:15 PM, "Multimedia; Hypercard, Hypercard Stacks, and
Grants!"

     Joseph Gleason, President, Quality Computers.
