A PROPOSAL TO CREATE A NETWORK-WIDE BIODIVERSITY RESERVE
FOR DIGITAL ORGANISMS

July 5, 1994, 7:30pm., MIT AI Lab, 545 Technology Square (MIT
building NE43). 8th floor playroom.
It is proposed that a very large, complex and inter-connected
region of cyberspace be created through the donation of spare CPU
cycles from thousands of machines running the region as a low
priority background process on participating nodes. This region
will then be inoculated with digital organisms, which will be
allowed to evolve freely through natural selection.
If successful, this project will generate digital information
processes that fully utilize the capacities inherent in our
parallel and networked hardware.
