Abstract

Computer assisted genetic map assembly covers a set of software tools for utilizing data from relational databases used in genome research. The tools are designed to aid in the creation, editing, storage and representation of integrated maps of the structure of genomes of biological organisms including human.

The Map Editor tool maps the order of DNA segments (contigs) using a choice of algorithms and the laboratory notebook database. The maps represent information in the database and allow researcher modifications of the data objects in the maps with graphic user interfaces.

An expert system is proposed which allows many experimental data sets to be integrated into a single composite map. The map is developed by creating rule sets which prune alternative map solutions.

A related AIDS map editor will be discussed and its use in determining relationships between AIDS variants.
