John, I mostly agree with this posting. And other times what you say is 
completely opposite to this sort of thing. I'm wondering if the "John" 
persona is being managed by a committee!

The only thing I disagree with is... taking advantage of the assets. Ok, 
so I'm an uncured romantic even after dealing with some very confused 
guys (I can't actually say they were total assholes since that implies 
volition and knowledge of the wrong-doing, IMHO), but I'm not into 
relationships that involve taking advantage, in the negative sense where 
one person is doing all the taking. 

The fact that what you have seen in this world is mostly greedy people
trying to make things better for themselves at the expense of others (from
the tenor of your notes) does not mean there are none with another vision
of life. I agree with your point that it is good to know there are those
who will do you wrong, and thus safeguard yourself against their malice.
However, you seem to be safeguarded against ever seeing the possibility of
anything BUT malice and dishonesty.
